Rizzoli & Isles, a Must See TV Show

Are You The Best Armchair Detective? SweepstakesI was lucky enough to have enough Klout to be sent an Armchair Detective Kit containing a DVD set of the first year of the show Rizzoli & Isles. The kit included a red blanket, a pair of handcuff earrings, a mug, a booklight and a bookmark, all imprinted the Rizzoli & Isles logo. A neat gift if I should say so myself!

I have to be honest, I hadn’t seen the show before, I hadn’t even seen a preview of it. I was intrigued by the cover of the DVD set which shows Jane Rizzoli (played by  Angie Harmon) dangling a pair of handcuffs, and Dr. Maura Isles (played by Sasha Alexander) holding an apple in front of a pair of feet with  toe tag in the morgue. What’s different about this show you ask? It’s the combination of heroic, brassy personality of Detective Rizzoli and the intellegent, but very feminine personality of Medical Examiner Dr. Isles, as they investigate some of the most intriguing cases.

In the first episode I watched, “We Don’t Need Another Hero”, I realized that this show really tackles some of the issues of current events, like a funnier CSI. I really like the quips that the 2 main characters throw back and forth throughout the episode, making it not so dark, but still keeping undertone austere enough to understand the seriousness of the plot.

Among the main actors there is a great supporting cast, among them familiar faces like Lorraine Bracco (from The Sopranos) who plays Rizzoli’s mom, and Bruce McGill (from Animal House, CSI and many others) who plays Rizzoli’s former partner.

The show is humorous, but edgy and I can see how a lot of women will be able to identify with the 2 main characters. I’m planning on watching this second season, with my Armchair Detective Kit by my side.

Disclosure:  I was given a free product or sample because I’m a Klout influencer. I was under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about this company. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company. All of the ideas expressed are genuine and are all my own. If I didn’t like the show, I wouldn’t write about it.
