My First Blog!

Helloooooo world! Can you tell this is my first blog? I’ve been thinking about writing one for a while, but I didn’t really know where to start. I guess you’ll have to sit through listening to my background story first, then I’ll move on to some of the subject matter that you really want to hear. So here goes.

As many of you may (or may not) know, I used to work full-time as a computer programmer. I loved what I did, but I got really tired of the rat race. I’m also an avid crafter, scrapbooker, jewelry-maker, candle-maker etc, etc, etc. Unfortunately, with a full-time job and a family, how in the world would I have time for all the stuff I like to do?

In the events of the last 10 years or so, I’ve realized that the proverb “”When God closes one door He opens another” is absolutely true. You just have to work on looking for the door he’s going to open next. About 6 years ago, my last contract as a consultant ended around the same time as the birth of our second son, and I was on enemployment while I searched for another contract. About 7 months later, I fell into a job I hated. If you know me (as many of you do) you’re probably thinking “that must not have lasted very long”, and you’re right. I left that job in less than a month only to land in another job that I only partially disliked (notice I didn’t say “hated”). When that company started doing poorly, a few of us were laid off and I was approached by a friend of mine, who offered me a programming job working from home. Woohoooo! I started having more time for my family and crafting, and I also started a Mobile Spa Business in the evenings for extra money. It seemed like a dream come true.

After a few years, our division lacked direction and started doing poorly. Next came layoffs and paycuts.  Thank goodness for the money I was making part-time doing at-home spas and selling jewelry and crafts. What I started to realize was that I can’t count on “stable” companies to support my family, the answer to my problem was ME! I started doing more and more with my part-time business. The more I put in, the more I got out of it. Then the doors to the company I was working for “full-time” closed last week. And so one door closes, and here I am!

In future installments of my blog, I’ll covering a wide range of topics. Some of the topics will be: A-Z of skincare, healthy tips for fun in the sun, men’s skincare, the benefits of at-home spa treatments and how exfoliating helps your skin look and feel younger. I’ll also include topics for some of my hobbies like candle and jewelry making. Please feel free to suggest topics as well, I’m always open to suggestions.

Have a spahhh-ctacular day!
